WHAT IS BIODYNAMIC CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY (BCST)?
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) is an evolution of craniosacral healing from the Osteopathic tradition.
When a person’s nervous system is impaired by tissue tightness, it can cause a variety of physical problems, including pain, discomfort, motor delays, anxiety and impaired function. BCST uses a light touch in order to relax tissues and structures specifically affecting the central nervous system. It also releases tensions deep in the body to help reduce pain, relieve dysfunction, and improve whole-body health and performance by facilitating the body's natural and innate healing processes.

It’s thought that through the gentle contact of the area in which the body presents a need for resourcing, the flow of cerebrospinal fluid in the central nervous system can be normalised. This removes “blockages” from the normal flow, which enhances the body’s ability to heal.

A typical BCST session involves discussion on history and intention for treatment before a body work session on a massage table.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Craniosacral Therapy origin?
Originating in Andrew Taylor Still's system of osteopathic medicine, it owes much to subsequent pioneers of technique, such as William G. Sutherland in 1901 discovered that the bones of the skull have inherent motion. At that time, he was a student of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri under Andrew Still, the father of Osteopathy. William Sutherland extended Stills system into cranial osteopathy. This was refined and codified by Harold Magoun in the 1950's and taught by him to Dr. John E.
What does a Craniosacral Therapy session look like?
Firstly, you'll be greeted at reception by one of our friendly receptionists, where you can sit before and after your session if required and help yourself to some water. I will come out to reception to greet you and bring you into the treatment room. We’ll have an initial chat to discuss your history and what your intention for the treatment is. I’ll ask you to take off your shoes and get comfortable (please wear comfy clothes!) You will then lie on the massage table where we will adjust the height to help getting on if required. I will guide you through the session to ensure you remain completely comfortable throughout. I will explain in the beginning what you might experience and allow time for any questions. You are fully clothed during the session and can also put a warm or light blanket on top for comfort. The touch is very light, and after a while you may not even notice my hand on your body!
Who can Craniosacral Therapy help?
Absolutely everyone! While Craniosacral Therapy can be a wonderful grounding form of self-care for any client, you may wish to seek treatment related to any of the following: - Stress - Anxiety - Family disconnection or conflict - Self worth / self image - Sense of belonging - Childhood abuse or trauma - Birth trauma - Marriage breakdown - Anger - Headaches or double vision - Joint pain including hips, shoulders, jaw - Fibromyalgia - Organ issues including bladder, lungs, kidney, liver - Colitis - Gut issues and digestion - Post-partum recovery - Colic babies - Lower back pain - Sciatica - ADHD - Carpal tunnel - Bulging disks - Bell's Palsy - Parkinson's Disease - Pre-natal/labour preparation - Lethargy - Seizures
How often should I book?
The frequency of client sessions varies depending on individual needs, and the nature of the intention for sessions. Some may find significant progress within a few sessions, while others might benefit from longer-term support or choose to go at a slower pace in line with nervous system capability. This will be continuously reviewed and discussed to ensure your sessions remain aligned with your healing journey.
Is craniosacral therapy same as Reiki?
While Reiki deals primarily with the energetic body, Craniosacral Therapy (CST) addresses blockages in the physical body. CST is a gentle practice that focuses on releasing restrictions to the flow of cerebrospinal fluid in order to balance the body's nervous system.

Hello there!
My name is Michelle Josephine Farrelly ('MJ' Helping Hand) - originally from Ireland, I moved to Australia in 2009 and have worked predominantly in Project Controls and Project Management in the construction industry - until I was introduced to the beautiful modality of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST)!
I first experienced BCST in February 2018 which changed the course of my life, something I'll always be grateful for. I commenced studying this gentle therapy in February 2021 and completed the required BCST 10 Seminars in April 2023. At a minimum I have been and will continue to learn and complete two postgraduates a year.
I have the privilege of working with clients of all kinds (men, women, children and infants) across Brisbane and beyond. My mission is to reach as many people as possible to promote the importance of having a personal resource list. BCST is just one option on that resource list, empowering people to help themselves outside of treatments is key.

My practice seeks to help clients achieve balance through teaching them how to listen to their own bodies to heal themselves. This is done by truly meeting clients where they are at, hearing them at a deeper level, and holding a safe, supportive space for clients, some of which have never experienced this space before.
